New Business Start-ups

Vehicle Leasing & Subscriptions for New Business Start-ups

Newly incorporated businesses often find it difficult to obtain a credit line for traditional vehicle leasing. Our partner Cocoon Vehicles has helped hundreds of new businesses get moving by using its short-term car lease fleet and vehicle subscriptions instead, with underwriters assessing both the business and its directors to minimise risk – sometimes with a refundable deposit or bond in place.

Newly formed limited companies, sole traders, partnerships, LLPs, PLCs, charities, embassies and VAT-registered businesses that need a vehicle but haven't yet built up a business credit history.

Where this fits: Company Car Rentals is primarily built around one-month-plus vehicle subscriptions and short-term leasing. New Business Start-ups is included here for completeness, but coverage across our five partners varies – see the notes below before you enquire.

Why choose new business start-ups?

Options when credit lines are declined

Business car subscriptions and short-term leases can work even where traditional contract hire credit lines are not yet available.

Business Car Subscriptions from 1 month

With the best pricing typically unlocked at 90 days or more, vehicle-specific.

Short-term leases from 6-12 months

Not every new start-up will qualify, but this is a popular route where some commitment is acceptable.

Vans included

Van subscriptions and short-term van leases are available too; couriers can typically access van subscriptions but not short-term van leases.

What type of new businesses can apply?

Limited companies, sole traders, partnerships, LLPs, PLCs, charities, embassies and VAT-registered businesses can all apply, via our partner Cocoon Vehicles.

What information will I need to provide?

As a minimum, expect to provide company details (name, address, company number, turnover), signing directors' details and driving licence/passport, a recent utility bill, and 3 months of business bank statements.

Will I need a credit check?

Yes – credit checks are carried out on all applications to comply with FCA and anti-money-laundering requirements.

How many vehicles can a new start-up business take?

This depends on the credit limit and terms set by the underwriter, who may also restrict how many vehicles you can hold at any one time.

Can couriers apply for van subscriptions?

Yes – couriers can typically access van subscriptions (with a suitable mileage allowance), though they are not usually eligible for short-term van leases.
